Đakovo - Croatia

The most impressive religious building in Slavonia  is Đakovačka cathedral dedicated to St. Peter, for which  Pope John XXIII. said that is the most beautiful church between Venice and Constantinople. It was built by Bishop đakovački J.J. Strossmayer 1866th. It gave the importance to Đakovo as ecclesiastical center of Slavonia. Recognizable by the red brick, it is just as beautiful inside like outside with a gorgeous stained glass windows and altar.

The walls from the 14th century, the former Turkish mosque from the 16th century, the Memorial Museum of Bishop J.J. Strossmayer, various cultural events such as "Đakovački vezovi" and "Ivanjski kresovi" and the paddock of widely known Lipizzaner horses make this city unique in Slavonia. Numerous performances worldwide that horses are spreading  the word about Đakovo. A State Lipizzaner horse-farm in Djakovo is a popular destination for a growing number of horse lovers from home and abroad.
