Čavle - Croatia

Čavle - the municipalitie in the area of Grobnik, represents the northern entrance to the city of Rijeka. City Grobnik is the old town of the municipality Čavle.

Grobnik castle, built on Roman foundations, is one in a series of Frankopan fortress, built from 1225 year onwards. Below the Castle Grobničko field extends where there is automotodrom, that hosts sports car races, and the sports airport.

Norther is the winter sports center Platak, favorite ski resort for citizens of Rijeka. On the east side of Grobničko field, which legend tells about the war against the Tartars, 1242nd year, is the baroque castle Mayer from the 17th century. Church of St. Filip and Jakov was built in 1105 and it was one of the oldest churches on the ground Grobnik.

In addition to its rich and glorious past, residents of the municipality Čavle are known by the old, traditional food from local products that can be tasted at the Festival of polenta and cheese, but also in many restaurants and taverns (kumpirica polenta, smoked ham, cheese, strudel ...).
