Čakovec - Croatia

In the geographical center of the Međimurja is city Čakovec. In the 13th c. analysis showed a wooden "Čakov's tower" as a precursor to the modern city and its name. Famous Croatian noble family Zrinski in the 16th century rises it into unconquerable and sumptuous "Wasserburg" by sprouting a free royal city. In the green embrace of the park preserved is historical heart of the city which is made of Zrinski fortress and a Franciscan monastery with church of st. Nicholas, baroque complex, and Art Nouveau Palace.

Around the historical center a today's city Čakovec has developed in the center of Medjimurje. It's a place pleasant to live for 20 000 inhabitants, has the entire infrastructure, landscaping of city parks, propulsive economic and cultural events. Tourists can see the historical center. City gives an excellent gastronomic offer, sports facilities and attractive events throughout the year. Čakovec was  in 2008. declared the cleanest city in the continental Croatian operation "Green Flower".
