A small town between the Velebit mountain and sea, is situated on an important road towards the Adriatic sea, which runs from Rijeka to Dubrovnik, and the interior to Gospic, the Plitvice Lakes and Zagreb. The turbulent history of the city is visible in the ruins of a medieval fortress overlooking the city - Fortice and several churches. The Capuchin monastery with the church of St. Joseph is the rich library and artistic treasures, like the most important painting of the Last Supper by an unknown author.
