Bjelovar is seat and center of Bjelovar-Bilogora county. It originated in the 18th century, by the decision of the Empress Maria Theresa, and was named the third most beautiful city in the continental part of Croatia.
Known as the city of cheese, Bjelovar is a leading agricultural and livestock region in Croatia. Economic performance Bjelovar Fair brings together the largest producers of seeds, livestock breeders and producers of agricultural machinery in Europe. During the year the city hosts many sporting and cultural events such as the Black Cat, BOK-fest and Teresiana, multi-day tourist event which consists of sports competitions, unusual records, fashion shows, concerts and theatrical show of coming the empress in Bjelovar.

Bjelovar and its surroundings offer numerous recreational activities, walking or cycling, running on trim trail in Borik, swimming in public swimming pools, riding in one of the equestrian clubs and hunting in forests rich in wildlife. Overlooking the Bjelovar and its surroundings is offered from Kamenitovca, mountain lodge at Bilogora at 242 m above sea level.
